Tonight was the last night of SXSW: a film, tech, and music festival in Austin. The city was mobbed with hipsters and musicians. There was everything from exclusive club shows to organized free concerts to random street performers (Vagabond Swing was a fun group, as was a band where everyone was playing pots/pans/buckets and the singers used megaphones). Austin definitely earned its weird image.
After walking around and watching a few bands I started towards Frank Hot Dogs Cold Beer: Purveyors of Artisan Sausage which I read about prior to my visit. All of their sausages and hot dogs are homemade (or made for Frank locally). I had the “Jackalope: Our local antelope, rabbit & pork sausage, huckleberry compote, sriracha aioli, smoked cheddar” with a cold Firehouse Hefeweizen. It was so amazing I would go back for breakfast and get the same thing again. Though I may opt for the Red Headed Stranger instead of a beer (House-made bacon-infused Tito’s Vodka, Frank bloody Mary mix, garnished with bacon, cheddar cheese, jalapeno stuffed olive, peperoncini).
And if you haven’t already, run outside right now and look at the moon!! It seems close enough to touch. Off to College Station for a taste of rural Texas tomorrow!
P.S. – Texas is my 30th state!!!
