Snowy Seattle

January 18, 2012

Our snow-covered house!

Seattle is woefully unprepared for snowfall because big storms happen so infrequently. Since the city has no plows or sanding trucks, three inches of snow has led to two cancelled days of school. As a Bostonian it is a little silly to me that so little snow causes such a standstill, but it was great to go outside and see so many people gleefully enjoying the rarity of the storm.  On my walk to the grocery store I passed by a kid carrying a hunk of snow as large as he could wrap his arms around (obvoiusly, because he could), a couple kissing on a playground and going down the slide, a cross country skier, and a snowboarder/dog sledder who was moving at impressive speeds.  And in celebration I made a small snow man 🙂

Update: These IS a sport that involves skiing while being pulled by a horse or dog! It’s called skijoring. Please let me go to the next championship.

This has great potential as a new olympic sport.
